Statement from Aly Richards, CEO of Let's Grow Kids, in Response to Governor Scott’s 2022 State of the State Address
Statement in response to Governor Scott’s State of the State Address today from Aly Richards, CEO of Let’s Grow Kids:
“We have never been closer to achieving an equitable, accessible, affordable, and high-quality early childhood education system in Vermont, but at the same time, things have never been harder for Vermont families, businesses, or our essential child care workforce. Governor Scott’s acknowledgement today during his state of the state address of the connection between child care and Vermont’s economy was a step in the right direction.
“But, right now Vermonters need more than just an acknowledgement – they need action. This year, we must continue on the path laid out by the Child Care Bill (H.171/Act 45), while also addressing the ongoing child care workforce crisis and responding to the urgent needs of Vermont families caused by the pandemic.
“During the 2022 legislative session, we must address Vermont’s early childhood educator workforce crisis, update Child Care Financial Assistance Program policies to reflect the realities of program operations during an on-going pandemic, and continue progress toward transformative solutions.
“We look forward to working with legislative champions and the Scott Administration to address these critical needs while pushing ahead on the path towards an affordable, high-quality child care system that works for all Vermonters.”
