MSA, VBSR Declare Support for Public Investment in Child Care

Burlington, VT – Today, Main Street Alliance (MSA) and Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility (VBSR) announced their endorsement of Vermont’s Child Care Campaign, affirming their support for public investment in a child care system that meets the needs of all Vermont children, families and businesses.

Launched in 2021, Vermont’s Child Care Campaign empowers Vermonters to advocate for the policy change and public investment needed to sustain a high-quality child care system.

MSA is a national organization with a regional focus that works with small businesses around issues that matter most for their employees and the community they serve. “Main Street Alliance of Vermont and our 700 plus business owners from across the state know that in order to have a thriving economy, we have to build a strong and stable child care system. Without increased state investment, our valued employees will not have the child care they need in order to be able to work,” said Morgan Nichols, New England Regional Manager, Main Street Alliance. “Vermont’s Child Care Campaign is the rallying cry businesses have been waiting for and MSA looks forward to standing with child care champions across the state.”

VBSR is a statewide, nonprofit business association with a mission to leverage the power of business for positive social and environmental impact. “The connection between access to high-quality, affordable child care and the health of our economy have never been more clear,” said VBSR Executive Director Roxanne Vought. “Vermont has the opportunity to build an equitable and sustainable child care system if we act now. In joining Vermont’s Child Care Campaign, we believe Vermont has the opportunity to lead the nation on this issue by investing in an equitable and sustainable child care system. VBSR and our 650 members representing every sector of the economy from manufacturers to tech companies to trades are proud to endorse this campaign.”

On Wednesday, April 27, MSA and VBSR will join Vermont’s Child Care Campaign along with business champions for child care from across Vermont, on the steps of the state house in Montpelier to formally declare their support for public investment in a child care system that meets the needs of all Vermonters.

“The lack of access to affordable, high-quality child care has been identified by both employers and parents as a barrier to rebuilding the workforce Vermont’s businesses and economy needs to recover and grow. Whether you’re looking for short-term stability or long-term ROI, investing in child care is the smartest investment we can make,” said Aly Richards, CEO of Let’s Grow Kids. “These endorsements bring us closer to reaching the ultimate goal of a publicly funded child care system that meets the needs of all Vermonters.”
