COLLABORATING WITH HIGHER EDUCATION TO STRENGTHEN AND GROW VERMONT’S EARLY EDUCATOR WORKFORCE
Despite the critically important role early educators play in the healthy development of our youngest children, Vermont does not have enough qualified early educators to fill open positions. Due to low pay and other factors, it is difficult to recruit and retain talented and qualified early educators. Let’s Grow Kids (LGK) is working with Vermont’s institutes of higher education to help sustain and grow the state’s early care and learning workforce.
Examples of our collaborative work with higher ed include:
COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF VERMONT
LGK worked with CCV to support the expansion of the services offered by the Northern Lights Career Development Center to early educators
NORTHERN VERMONT UNIVERSITY
LGK worked with the Higher Education Collaborative in partnership with Northern VT University to develop and implement a course in Child Care Administration.
LGK is working with Castleton College to establish an early childhood center that will serve young children of staff, students and the greater Castleton community.
LGK has been a coalition partner as Middlebury College works to re-examine strategic investment in the Addison County early care and learning community. LGK has offered programmatic technical assistance to local early care and learning programs working to expand their capacity and quality to better serve the college and community child care need.
